On 7.10.2022, we celebrated the 120th anniversary of Hanna Chrzanowska’s birth. The celebrations began the day before with a solemn Mass celebrated at St. Nicholas Church in Krakow. It was presided over by Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski, together with Rev. Canon Józef Gubała, the parish priest of St. Nicholas Church, and Rev. Kazimierz Kubik, who provides pastoral care to nurses.
The ceremony was attended by the faithful from St. Nicolas parish, students, and teachers from the Post-Secondary School for Health Care Workers No. 3 in Kraków, which bears Hanna Chrzanowska’s name, accompanied by the school’s colour guardnurses, and educators associated with health care services from Krakow and Ostrów Wielkopolski. After the Holy Mass, during which the Archbishop preached a sermon, the litany to Blessed Hanna Chrzanowska was recited in front of her sarcophagus.
Rev. Canon Józef Gubała, who is not only the parish priest but also the custodian of the Blessed Hanna’s relics, organised a pilgrimage to Warsaw for parishioners and anyone willing to participate in the two celebrations held there.
On 7.10.2022 at 5.30 p.m., at St. Anthony’s parish at 31 Senatorska Street in Warsaw, near the place where Hanna Chrzanowska was born, the nursing community began a rosary prayer, during which quotes from her writings were used. Next, after the celebrants with the relics of Blessed Hanna entered in a procession
the Holy Mass began, presided over by Bishop Romuald Kamiński, Ordinary of the Warsaw-Praga Diocese, Chairman of the Pastoral Health Care Team.
The Word of God was delivered by Rev. Canon Józef Gubała, and four colour guards of the medical communities from Warsaw were present at the mass. The ceremony was crowned by Bishop Kamiński’s consecration of a commemorative plaque, which will be hung on a tenement house at 32 Senatorska Street, the place where Blessed Hanna was born. The Mass was followed by a short meeting with Hanna’s family: her godson, Mr Stanisław Szlenkier, his wife, and son Ksawery with his family.
On 8.10.2022, in Wiązowna – a village several kilometres away from Warsaw, which prides itself on the fact that in its parish church
little Hania was baptised on 23.06.1903 – a Holy Mass was celebrated by Rev. Canon Józef Gubała, who had been greeted by Rev. Paweł Jagła, the parish priest.
After the Mass, we toured the church, stopping at the baptismal font, which – together with several other elements of the church furnishings – was funded by the members of the Szlenkier family.
veryone could write their requests for intercession in the mass intentions book. A request for further graces for the CICIAMS (International Catholic Committee of Nurses and Medico-Social Assistants) was written by doctor Małgorzata Brykczyńska, President of the European Region, who took part in all the celebrations dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Blessed Hanna Chrzanowska’s birth.
